150 police officers and at least 500
men attending, an alleged immoral
entertainment here .early today,
more than 400 men and four women
were arrested and herded into Hoi- j

was shot and killed today by a ban
dit who attempted to hold up the
bank.
The cashier. A. R. McFarland, 35,
was fired upon through the window
of his cage when lie refused to
hand out money on the demand of
the bandit. Me was killed instantly.

Howies' death was suicide, but

mony to show Mrs, Howies had
been In a happy frame of mind
until a short time before the
tragedy. Hlate's
witnesses said
she was aware of the alleged intl
mate relationship between Howies
and his former necretary, but that
she was neither despondent nor
bitter. Police said she had gone
to Airs, ' Paris' apartment to dis
cuss ibis alleged relationship and
while there she received the fatal
knife ihrunt

Murder charges were placed
against Howled and Airs. Paris
Keven days after the tragedy when
Dr. Paul It. Cooper, called to at
tend Mrs. Howies after the stab
