Nick Hrophy reports the sale of
his Bartlett crop, urchurd run at
$33 per ton, a figure that means
the fancy grades bring $40 per ton.
Sales of two blocks of Hartletts,
of 4M) tons and 700 tons, arc
pending.
(rowers and shippers also report
that cannery representatives hav.e
shown a disposition, to dicker for
cannery pears, asking growers to
offer ti proposition. Heretofore
the canneries have maintained a
watchful waiting pulley, holding
firm for their opening price of $25
per ton.
A representative of the Oregon
fanning company at Xewberg,
xjiegon, was in the city today
offering $5 per ton for culls, which
the shippers have been forced to
dump, and pay a haulage fee of
S 1 to the truckmen. He Is the
first "cull buyer" of the season.
Today's and yesterday's price
for BartletlM in New York markets
showed an increase of from. 25 to
35 cents per box ofer the same
days last week. The advance is
held to be duo to the tapering off
of the peach crop, and the passing
of the peak of the California
Hart let ts, that have Jeen pouring
into the eastern markets since the
season started.
The first Kogue river Bartletts
are due to arrive in New York
the end of the week, and will go
