NEW PARKING RULE
The present prices paid for fruit
picking return m the average 35
cents an hour for men and 30
cents per hour for women, accord
ing to information obtained today
from the local branch of the gov
ernment free employment bureau,
located in the Chamber of Com
merce building. These : amounts
are lower than paid In past years,
but pickers are considering them
selves fortunate to find employ
ment at that pay. . - .i
Despite the fact that fruit pick
ing U going Into full swing, there
in still a big labor surplus. Includ
ing considerable labor that is con
sidered incompetent, It Is said.
After next Monday, no cars will
be allowed to park for longer than
ten minutes on South Fir street- In
the fruit packing district, City
Traffic Chief George Prescott an
nounced today. The parking limit
will be rigidly enforced, . and Is
being placed in effect hecause of
loading and unloading activities of
fruit trucks.
