Prof. Goddard Expects to
Send Missile to Height of
75 Miles Take Air Sam

periments in shooting rocket to
extreme altitudes, financed by Dan
iel Guggenheim, will be carried on
by Prof. Hubert H. Goddard of
Clark university, Worcester, Mass.,
at Hoswell, N. M. That site was
selected because of favorable at
mospheric conditions.
Prof. Goddard has been conduct
ing rocket experiments since 1912
with the aid of the Smithsonian
Institution, Clark university and
tho Carnegie Institute. Guggen
heim recently mado u grant to per
mit further work.
At Hoswell, small rockets will
be sent up first and finally one
capable of ascending from 50 to
"5 miles will be sent up by gas
propulsion and with parachutes to
regulate the speed tho return to
earth. The rockets will carry ther
mometers, barometers, electrical
measuring apparatus, air traps to
colloc samples of air at various
altitudes and other Instruments.
Pending completion of prepara
tory work Jt cannot be announced
how soon the work at Hoswell will
begin.
