NO ORDINARY CIRL
THE leader of the cavalcade
waved a hand In reply, and It
was easy for Howard to see that it
was his only hand. Welllog was a
slim, bronzed man, his light hair
burned lighter by the sun, his blue
eyes vivid against Llio tan, the hard
ness ot his expression minimized
. by a mouth as tender as a woman's.
"What mischief have you been up
to. Dagger?" he hailed. "We beard
shots." ' ' '
"Jose Martinez and a bunch ot
Vllllstas were chasing Mr. Howard,
here, Dick. That was all."
"All?" There was Irritation In
Welling'B tone, ."If I catch Josfi "
"I'm u fro hi I'm responsible for

Howard.
Welling glanced nt Mm keenly.
"Been smugglliig?"
"Oh, no," the tilr spoke up. "Mr.

"And our friend Joso would have

"I've promised Mr. Howard some

accommodate him?"
Welling surveyed Howard's rangy,
horseman's figure. "I'lny, do you?"
; '"A bit."
. "Ah! Any particular club?"
"Meadqwbrook, when I'm at
home."
The Englishman stiffened In his
saddle.
"Are you Blaine Howard, sir?"
"Guilty," admitted Howard.
"You" Wolllng broke off hlo

slight flush: ' "You're the nine-goal

"Hut It's odd. to llnil you 'way down

"And who .found him?" crowed
Dagger. "He know who you were
as soon as I mentioned you."
Welllng'i flush deepened.
"That's an old story," be demur

.Mr, Howard But torgivo my rude

He waved tho cavalcade forward.
"How'd you happen to be In Mojt
