manager of the commercial de
partment of the United Hlulet
States Chamber of Commerce, in
Ills address before the noon lunch
eon ot the local Chamber of Com
merce forum at Hotel Medfuid.
"It Is better to help the men
right In our city than to Nuance
the promises of strangers," Mr.
(Frown, who is-iu close contact with
the commerclul probleiiiH of the na
tion, stated. ;
"Tho chamber of commerce

contributing to the fluunclnl pro
gress of the city.
Europe Needs Products
Speaking of the Industrial pro
gress which Ib under way in Eu
rope, Mr.' Drown said the United
States does not need to fear the
competition which might urlse from
a product put out by cheap labor.
As soon as the laborers develop
the skill known In the United
States, he explained, they will de
mand higher uges. "There are
over 400,(100,000 people In Hnrope,"
he stated, "who want electric wush
ling machines, automohilos and
vacuum cleaners as badly as Amer
icans do.
"There was a time In the his
tory of the United States when
one man was owner, operator and
distributor for an Industry. There
are now several hundred thousand
stockholders in i( firm. Tho tlmo
has passed when prosperity depend
ed upon long hours and low wuges.
And leading firms realize this fact.
The great need today," the speak
er pointed out, "is for stabilized
production and stabilized pay
rolls." t- Medford Praised
