While searching tho cave Dr.
Harrington found remains left'by
aome groat lierbiverous animal,
which he believed to have been
the giant ground sloth, extinct
mammal of 20,000 years ago. HI
belief was confirmed by Ilurnum
Mi-own, New York anthropologic,
who was familiar with ground sloth
remains found in Houth America.
Thon'the upper half of an ani
mal's skull wan pulled from be
tween the broken rocks of tho cave
floor. It was Identified tut that of
a ground sloth.
Further excavation uncovered
numerous bones of the ground
sloth, tho. tiny skeleton of a pre
historic home, and scores of broken
dart uhaftH and points of obsidian
and flint, parts of the weapons used
by the primitive men of tho time.

turies tho- excavators dug down
til rough seven feet of hard gypsum
stalagmites and broken rock layers.
