CEDAR CITY, Utah, July 17.
OP) The long search for Muurice
Graham, ill-fated air mall pilot and
world war veteran, 1ms been ended
with the finding of his body, now
only a skeleton, in the mountains
abont 30 miles southeast of here
today and the long, rough trip was
to be made up into the mountains
to return the body to Cedar City.
The remains wer efound yester
day when- six men, headed by MuJ.
Richard N. McDonald, a companion
during the world war of Grnlmm,
six miles south of tho spot where
his wrecked plane was found throe
weeks ago iu the Kanarra moun
tains 22 miles southeast of here.
Apparently having met death
from exposure in one of the worst
blizzards the southwest has known,
Graham's body was found in the
underbrush near a creek he was
following fiom the scone of tho
wreck and leading toward Zion na
tional park.
- Cards Identify
Identification was made by the
finding of two personal cards, his
revolver and foodstuffs he had tnk
cn from the. plane before abandon
ing It.
When dentil came Graham appar
ontly was sitting down to eat. In
his left hand, which was resting
across his chest, he held a knife
and besldo him lay a can of toma
toes with a hole punched in the
top. hi his right hand, lying over
his head, he held his gun, fully
loaded. An empty can of food
stuffs also lay beside the body.
The discovery climaxed an In
tensive search of the vicinity which
has been under way since discov
ery of the plane. The clue that is
believed to have been mainly re
sponsible for ending the mystery
was found last Saturday in the dis
covery of a burned out campflre
and articles identified as from a
kit carried by the flier three miles
south of the scene of the wreck
age. Leave Guards at Site -
In addition to McDonald, the men
who found the body Included Jimmy
Allen of Los Angeles, a cousin of
the pilot. McDonald and Allen re
turned to Cedar City, leaving the
other four men to guard the body.
McDonald immediately notified
the Western Air Express on the
air mail run from Los Angeles to
Salt Lake City. It was on the last
leg of his flight that he became
lost in a Btorm over Nevada and
Utah late on the night of Janu
ary 10.
Graham is survived by his widow,
who lives In Hollywood, and his
two children, Monte and Melodite,
boy and girl twins, 8 years old.
