DRAINAGE TESI
TUESDAY 2 P. IVI.
A drainage demonstration, under
the direction of the county agcnt'H'
office, and Arch Work, resident
drainage engineer connected with
the Department of Agriculture,
will be held next Tuesday after
noon at two o'clock at tho W. II.
Watt orchard, located south and
west of Voorhics Crossing. It will
be the fourth of a series.
In regard to the drainage edu
cational campaign. Albeit Hurcli,
fruitgrower, said:
"The demonstration which Is to
be held at the W. II. Watt orchard
near l'hoenix, should attract the
attention of every valley orchanlist ;
whether he knows that he hits
drainage problems or not. M
"These demonstrations h a v e j
been held under tile, direction of j
County Agent Wilcox and Federal
hngineer Work, and are always j
instructive. Attendance upon them
h is been increasing, showing that i
the people of this region are rapid- ;
Iv awakening to the fact that '
drainage problems exist here.
"By reason, perhaps, of observa
tion, covering more irrigated re
fjlons than most of the orchard
owners of the Kogue Hiver valley
have seen, I realized very early
that with my own orchard Hie
drainage iiuestlon would soon havc
to he solved. For that reason,
even before I had any irrigation
water to use and remove, I em
ployed an engineer who made a
specialty of such work, to lay out
a system of drainage. In the main
it has proved successful and highly
beneficial, though sonic add it ions
have been required, mid more are
now planned.
"Iiccau.se of tho topography and
the variation in soils, each case in
this valley requires separate and
Individual study, and for this rea
son I was among those who ini
tiated the request for a study of
conditions by n qualified govern
ment engineer."
In response to that request,
Mr. Work has been here for about
a year now, and has collected a
large amount of valuable Infor
rnation. Kvery one is invited to
