clear that the portion of the ordi

Inic of cars or trucks, on the

Mayor 1'lnes' letter follows:
In the lant two or three issues
of tho Medford Dully News, the
PuIiIIhIil'ih hav made vigorous at

of having been notified by the
pollen force to refrain from park

They reruHe to obey tho orderH

In (he Newn Ihhuc of Juno 25th,
und on the front page of the
paper, the. publisher makes the
fftllowlng Hlatemeut: "We made
earnest Inquiries from the police

there Is no ordinance In cxlKcnco

This statement Is untrue, for
when (lie . representative, of tho

It will be observed that the

the city attorney was Instructed

Anil ho Was Instructed by the

Tho present controversy wltn
the Dally News Is amply covered,
however, by the ordinance as It
now exlHts, as the violation of this
ordlnanco took place during the
business hours.
Now wo are not particularly
concerned nbntit the valuation of

by the employes or tho Daily

A sportsman of International re
nown, writing for a recent issue of
un outdoor magazine, makes the
statement that all Pacific coast
salmon begin to die nu soon as
they ascend the rivers, and Mint
they are only worth taking by line
or net while still In salt water.
He describes at length a fungus
disease that uttnckB the salmon
when It entora fresh water.
'How such a noted angler could
he ho :mislnfnrmcd is amazing.
Most of the angling and n great
deal of the commercial fishing is
done in fresh water. The present
salmon run in Hogue river haB
been tin for a month or more and
tho fish arc still in good condi
tion and edible.
Later when their long fast iias
weakeued them and they have be
come bruised In I heir migration to
the spawning beds It is true they
are unfit for sport or food. Hut
wo would vein m o to say if lie had
hooked a sullnon In the Hogue it
would weary Ills arm and ufford
111 in a good meal.
It is the general opinion Mint
all salmon perish lifter spawning
and when the mating 1b ovor are
valuoltiHS. A minority nf fisher
men believing that some of them re
turn to salt water nnd uro healed
of their wounds. It hna been
proven hy tagging that tho fish
return In four mnnllis to again
enter fresh water and havo been
known to mitko four different
runs.
