The liver In the largest gland of
the body and is situated in the
upper and right portion of tho ab
domen. Its principal function or
work is to socrele or form bile, a
fluid which h used In the Intestinal
digestion. Tho gall bladder Is tho
reservoir for tho bile. It is a con
Jenl, pear-shaped sac, lodged In the
depression on the under surface of
the right lobo of the liver and con
nected to U by the connective tis
sue. ,
How Gull Slimes Are Formed
The liver Is more or less con
tinually at work secreting this bile,
which, when it is not used for di
gestive purposes, la stored away by
the reservoir (the gall bladder),
and very rarely Js the gall bladder
found to be empty. The bile, like
all other fluids of the body, con
tains . small per cent of mineral
matter. In case there should be
a chronic Inflammation or exces
sive heat In this gall bladder It
will produce a crystallization of
the mineral element of the bile, so
that it takes the form of small,
solid, hard particles, the same as
the mineral cake forms In the bot
tom of the tea kettle that has been
used for a long time. Theo crys
tallized mineral particles collect In
the gall bladder and adhere to par
ticles of bilo pigment (coloring
matter). Hy the movement of the
gull bladder these particle are
rolled around within it, thus col
lecting other particles which In
time forms a calculous, or stone.

Constant?
1-Oall stones may remain In tho
, gall bladder for un indefinite time
and yet give rise to no symptoms
Indicating their presence; but
should they leave the gall bladder,
passing through tho bile ducts, In
tense pain called hepatic colic, Is
produced. An attack or hepatic
colic begins suddenly with intense
cutting pains In tho right sldo Just
below tho ribs and often radiates
along the ribs upward toward (ho
right shoulder, because this Is the
path of the nerves leading from the
spina to the liver. There may and
may not be a chill, and fever of
101 to 103 degroes. During tho
attack the liver becomos swollen,
tender, easily felt, and there may
be vomiting and drenching sweat.
In about ono-balf of all the cases,
jaundice or yellowlshness of tho
skin appears. The duration of the

passes. This colln or pain, is pro
duced by tho hard, sharp stone
scratching or tearing the dellcnto

these, stones out, In view of the fact
that they aro already formed and
iiti the gall bladder. Hut should
they ho removed by operating,
what Is going to hinder more from
being formed? Kvldenlly there
must he a cause for their forma
tion. It has already boon stated
that they are formed by excessive
heat crystallising mineral clement
In tho bile. Can heat be rut out

next question that naturally Brines
la what causes the excessive heat?

here yesterday. -Mr. Watt, well
known orchardlst near Phoenix,
went to school with the governor's
mother back In New Palestine, Pa,,
and knew the state executive us a
small boy.
It was a great visit for the local
tmin who learned much of his old
home town from the governor who
hud visit ml there last year. lie
asked of friends he knew IiG years
ago before ho came went und
learned that tjulto a number of
them had gone the way of flesh,
but tho place hadn't changed so
much. The road still runs out to
Unity and the country Ik Just as
pretty now as It was then. Mr.
Watt is planning a trip back to the
home state this full after the pear
crop Is In und among other things,
a ride out that old road to Unity
will be one of the most interesting.
Mr, Watt left New Palestine
years ago and did not see tho gov
ernor again until he, too, came
out went as a green attorney juHt
out of school. He stopped at M Gil
ford Just 20 yeara ago and visited
Mr. Watt with the Idea that he
would locate a law office In Aled
ford. Together tho two men looked
over tho local situation carefully,
but there wus already u sufficient
numbor of lawyers In the city and
tho governor continued his Jour
ney. He stopped at Kugenc, opened
an office, operated it for a short
time but soon learned he had made
a mistake locating there. How
ever, It was not so long until the
governor settled at llend and there,
developod into one of tho most

the two-year old, acrobatic bear
cub arrived at the kitchen door on
April 1, still blinking from his long
winter'M sleep. Two others who
accompanied him didn't appear so
well or so comfortably covered
cither in fat or fur. ,
Teddy gained great 'popularity
last year by his self-taught perfor
mances. Kor a few days It was
feared that he had Joined the
"holdouts' for a bettor contract,
hut his reappearance settled this
doubt. Jamima, however, grand
mother of the bear group of Crater
Lake National Turk, Is among
those yet to report. When she
floes come in, it is expected there
will be either one or two more
little bear cubs nt the gnrbngo pit

to Join the Junior class. Tho cubs
are usually tho favorites with the
visitors, and It will be interesting
to see how tho present two-year
olds meet this new competition.
These youngsters, who usually
make their first appearance early
In February, are carefully guarded
by the mothers until they are able
to think for themselves. During
the summer of 1929, there wero
eleven cubs In the vicinity of head
quarters. This year opens with
every promise of an even better
attendance.
