Interferes with digestion. In fact
no such thing happens, for if ono
drinks a glass of ice water the
temperature of the water in tho
stomach roaches that of the body
(98 to 1)9 degrees F.) within JO
or 1 ' minutes, before the water
loaves the stomach.
Little or no water is absorbed
in -the stomach. As soon as it is
taken into the stomach It begins
to pass along into the intestine
beyond (duodenum) In a series of
spurts produced by the peristaltic
waves which occur every 20 sec

into the blood from the Intestine.
There Is a fairly popular prac
tice, particularly among elderly
valetudinarians, of drinking & pint
or more of water first thing on
rising each morning, and some
take it hot, some take it lukewarm,
and some dissolve a spoonful or
two of salt In It. For certain

For others I should advise rather
tho liberal use of' cold (or warm
if you prefer) water at mealtimes.
The quulnt notion that such early
morning libations serve as an "in
ternal bath" Is too absurd to con

physiology. if the motive is to
"regulate the bowels," then I can
tell you, and with entire respect
for physiology, that tho free uso
of water, preferably with your reg

will accomplish tho result far more
effectively.

Answer. It is not necessary to

your physician orders it. Likewise
with sugar. No one should uss
saccharin, which is a drug . with

that is ordered by the physician'

conceive how the fermentation of
sugar can cause a toxic condition.
On the contrary, a certain amount
of fermentation of sugars or
