Putnam, mother of George Putnum, publisher of the Capital-Journal and Arthur Put nam, the California sculptor, died at the family residence In thiH city this morning, aged 85. She was born at Charleston, Vermont, was mar ried at St; Johnsbury in 1870 to Oram el H. Putnam, a Civil war veterun, going to New Orleans where her children were born. . After her husband's death In San Fruneisco in 1880 sho resided In Omaha, Nebrasa, returning to California In 18!2, residing in San Diego and Han Francisco.. For the past 25 years she has been a resi dent of Medford and Salem, Ore gon. BesideH her two sons, she is survived by a daughter, Kllzabeth Putnam of Salem and two grund children; Mrs. M. K. V.
