Vote.
1'AUK TJlltl'fC
With (ho primary election five
days ii way, the political sea of
.Itu-kKon county is unruffled, with
not a Hlnglc hat1 wngercd on Hie
outcome. Even the pollticlnns
have not become hot and bothered,
and the campaign has been the
calmest since the memory of the
oldest Inhabitant runneth not.
J. B. Coleman, county assessor,
predicts a 33 per cent vote,
if,, the country folks have any in
terest In the courthouse silo sel
ection. Others guess, that was
high as- tiO per cent of the vote
will be cast. It will not- be as
high as in 1922, when religion
whs -the 'issuo, mid 80 per cent of
tho vote wont to the polls.
. What election interest manifest
ed is centered in the - guberna
torial contest. Home political ob
servers predict Harry I. Corbott
will carry the county by 250 votes.
Others figure he will carry the
county over Norbhid by a narrow
margin. Norblad und Corbett are
wild to be the main contenders
hero, , with Joseph showing some
strength in Jacksonville. Hall,
who spent last- week- in the val
ley, wilb run - fourth, it is fore
ousted, being nosed out by Jos
eph. . Hall is the only candidate
to predict his own election; His
moagcr strength- in the county,
centors in: Ashland. II 41 carried
on a quiet campaign in these
parts, and his vote may surprise.
On account of the courthouse
site election, a large voto will prob
ably be polled in this city. Wheth
er tho people as a whole will take
the time to mark the rest of the
ballot will not he known until the
votes are counted.
In tho county, a county com
missioner . will be elected.' George
Alford, incumbent for six years,
necks re-election; and is opposed
by Ralph Hillings of Ashland.
Hillings is reported as having con
siderable strength in the south
rnd of the county which has al
ways been Alford's mainstay. Tho
chief business before the county
rourt the next two years will be
the construction of the new court
house. Tho past week the county court
has urged that rural voters go to
the polls next Friday, and vote
on the courthouse site issue. - It
takes a mighty issue to get the
farmers to vote in the spring. He
usually has a half day's work done,
before the polls open at eight
o'uloek in tho morning nnd ho is
working till they close at eight
In tho evening.
The work of distributing the
election material and ballots wilt
bo started Wednesday by lae sher
iff's office.. There are now fifty
eight precincts in the county.
Double election boards have
been named for .Medford, .Ashland,
Gold JJiill' ami' Central i'blnt,. to
