(VP) The house today asreed to the sen ate amendment placing logs of fir, spruce, cedar and western .-mloek on the free Hsi, These are now dutiable 4fcone dollar a thousand board feel. The vote division was 230 to 1G5. Approval then was given the sen -ate amendment to retain cedar iftnher on the free 1($ as in ex isting law. A rate of 25 per cent uO carried on the house bill. The vote as 2SU to I0S. The house today rejected the senate duty of 30 eets an ounce on silver which is on the free list in the (present law and house biil. The proposal, defeated 200 to 72 on a division vote, still is subject to another teat In the senate. A compromise duty f 75 cents a thousa nd board feet on f 1 r, spruce, pine, hemlock and larch lumber, now on the free list, then was defeated on a division vote by 230 to 178, but .Representative Hawley, republican, Oregon, who offered it, demanded a record vote, and this wiw ordered.
