Oregon Industries expanded
March operations sufficiently to
increase employment 3.1 per cent,
the federal reserve bank reported
here today alter an employment
survey. " 0
The gain followed usuul lines
of season, development, but was
;.7 pt'r cent smaller than the 19! 9
Increase for the state, and was
substantially less during the cor
re.pondinB season tor the last five
years.
While the lumber industry cm
ployed 0.8 per cent more men
than during the preceding month,
the payroll was lower than that
in the same 11129 month by 12 per
cent. Wages averaged the same
as February, but were a shade
lower than a year ago.
Oregon conditions showed con
siderably belter than the average
for the narton. which declined in
March as compared to February
for all industries, although the
nation's lumber end wood pro
ducts industries picked up a barely,
measurable gain.
