ECLIPSE ENHANCES
R
An Interesting sldcliuht 1,1U
ecllpso was rel.lti-d by Floyd Hush
of KMED. the Mai! Tribune-Virgin
.station, this afternoon. During the
height of the eclipse, when the
sun's disk was obscured to the ex
tent of 82 per cent by the shadow
of the moon, the station broadcast
a message for its listeners to try
and tune in stations from a dis
tance. Within 10 minutes several calls
were received from radio fans who
bad heard New York City and sta
tions throughout the middle wes:.
Tliis freak is attributed to the ab
sence of sun rays which did not
absorb the oscillatlins0uf radio
transmission.
I'erhaps the record would haw
been even better had the eclipse
been total. ;.s it was In California.
There the moon, a little over 200U
miles In diameter, I0.0I10 miles
rroin the earth, totally obscured
tho sun. 93.000.000 miles from in
earth, for one sscond ajid a half.
