3000 Natives Will Give

CI
By N. REYNOLDS PACKARD

PAKlS.il'I') Occident and
Orient, with all their colorful con
! tracts, will meet for mutual com
parison in the Bois de Vincennes,
just outside of Paris, when the In
ternational Colonial exposition
opens its gates about April 1, 1931,
This exposition will reveal how
all France lives and moves and lias
Its being. No less than 3000 na
tives from Indo-Chlna, Madasascar,
Mortiniqtie and other French colo
nies will be transported from
their homelands to give authentic
local color to the exhibits? These
natives will live and work in na
tive villages; they will play native
games and sing native music; thev
Will conduct native restaurants
and native theatres.
A bond issue of 125.000,000 rrancs
is now being floated by the French
government and a generous appro
priation will he included in the
lll.'SU colonial budget, to cover part
of the expenses. This, however,
'will not-include expenditures madti
Jjy individual colonies, since each
colony now has financial auton
omy, and each is bearing its own
expenses for this exposition. Offi
cial figures are lacking, hut it is
conservatively estimated France
and her colonies will spend well
over 250,000,000 francs.
Four nations have definitely ac
cepted invitations ' to participate
and have already appointed com
missioners. They are Belgium.
Holland, Italy and Portugal. Nego
tiations are now being conducted
in Washington and London, look
ing forward to American and Brit
ish participation, and affirmative
action is awaited.

in the plan, the Joint work of nn

composed of Kdward V, Warner.
William V. MacCraeken, Jr., and
Dr. Ceorge V. t,ewi.
The new plan assumes risks
which have not been taken by in

students on solo flights and con

plane .ban been destroyed and re

The reinstatement clause Is ab

replacement of a destroyed plane
by insurance underwriters.
The plan is heralded us the first
step ever taken to perpetuate the
