SKAT PLEASANT, Maryland,
Jan. 2. ( A deadly bomb In
the Key and Innocent guise of a
btdatud C'hriHtmas nif i brought

The dead w o in a n was Mrn.
Naomi Hall Urudy, IS, married
, last June to Merman Urudy, 22,
u farmer of Mitchellville. The in
jured numbered eight and in
eluded the girl's mother, Mrs. John
Hall, who is expected to reeover.
her grandmother, six brothers and
sisters, three of whom are in a
serious condition, and the son of a
neighbor, whose hurts were slight.
The tragedy took place shortly
after breakfast yesterday. The
package was delivered to the Halt
home by Leslie- Hall, who is in a
serious condition and by the neigh
bur's son, and Mrs. Brady eagerly
tore off the Yuletldo wrappings,
while members of the family clus
tered closely about her. Suddenly
it exploded. Mrs. Urudy died 20
minutes after being received at a
Washington hospital.
Neighbors Hear Hlast.
The explosion was heurd for
some distance and neighbors came
quickly to tho scene. The injured
were rushed to hospitals In Wash
ington, a few miles away.
Neither the dead woman's hus-
fcfund ,niW her father , werorpresent
bo the first time it ever happened.
The dictates of the French mode,
laid down by the leading couturiers
themselves, were the cause. To
put it simply, American women
just would not wear the old fash
ioned galoshes anymore.
I Thereupon, the French designers,
who hare always been a little hor
rified by the Yankee flapper and
her jingllnggaloshes with their
turned down tops, agreed that the j
time had come to take the matter)
up ana saiisiy everybody, so this
year they have adopted tho type of
rainy weather foot toar that tho
smartest American women used and
have designed gowns and hats to
match It and have made It a part
of the ensemble idea which lias I
been one of the most import&ai
Paris trends for several seasons.
. Styles Become Feminine
The chief mandates of the cou
turiers this fall, as every woman
knows. Is that the skirts shall be
longer, the waistline shall approx
imate the normal, and that gowns
shall be made with a distinct mod
eling, almost approaching the prin
cess style of former years. In
other words, the slyle of gowns
this year is distinctly toward the
feminine. The straight lines, boy
ish figure, and almost ascetic sim
plicity of ornament has become
passe. Women are going to be
women again.
And with this trend, of course,
there came the Insistence that when
one dresses for the artrnet, the after
noon, or the oper. the whole
makeup of the costwxe be In keep
ing. The accessor l- as one de
signer has said, are ?"iily as Im
portant as tho gown, i'.ince glovt's.

In view of that most delightful
style, the Paris designers could not
very well do else than give heed

A mo Mean women, for. naturally,
one uinot wear the galosh, which
was never of any style value, with
all sorts of gowns. If one Is to
dress with the ensemble Idea, and
that is manifestly the niost charm
ing way to dress, then one must
have storm foot covering to agree
with the costume.
So that was the predicament
that the designers faced, and
how they met the situation Is
a rather Interesting story.
We have, of course those of us
who make any attempt at careful
dressing been wearing the colcr-
ed featherweight rubber, or rub
berized tweed, storm joof foot
coverings known as "gaytees" for
some time. Some of us had sev
eral pairs of them In different
weights, different colorings, and
different textures. It was to this
type of storm wear that the cou-

Creatine Storm Design
Tiwt with the true French
thorough ness, eleven of the biggest
stjillsta became enthusiastic on the
subject. They designed storm en
sembles, coats, ensemble suits, hats,
thtf whole rainy day costume to go
with the American type of storm
shoe. Susunne Talbot, for Instance,

Style Secrets imrd(il
It is not surprising. They are,
most of them, real artists. Only
they work In lines and textiles, and
ensembles of fabrics find colors to

they all form a sort of a fashion
landscape which, slightly changing
from year to year, furnishes tbu
well-dressed women all over the
world with their vistas of what U
newest and most correct.
It has been a matter of much
comment among them for the past
few years to note the rapidity with
which American women are be

We all catcli colds and they can make us miserable;
but yours needn't last long if you will do this: Take
two or three tablets of Bayer Aspirin just as soon as
possible after a cold starts. Slay in the house if you
can keep warm. Repeat with another tablet or two
of Bayer Aspirin every three or four hours, if those
symptoms of cold persist. Take a good laxative when
you retire, and keep bowels open. If throat is sore,
dissolve three tablets in a quarter-glassful of water
and gargle. This soothes inflammation and reduces
infection. There is nothing like Bayer Aspirin for a
cold, or sore throat. And it relieves aches and pains
almost instantly. The genuine tablets, marked Bayer,
arc absolutely harmless to the heart.
