WASHINGTON, Dec. ST I. it?)
"Oh. Nick. Is our car ready?"
"Our car? You mean my ca1."
"No, our car: I'm letting you

"Jack" (Jarner of Texas, leader of
the house Democrats; the second
is Nicholas I-ongworth of Ohio, th

house for the speaker.
The conversation between the
two takes place nearly every after

he looks up the speaker and de
mands to be taken home in our

Kong worth doesn't evert laugh
He says "Jack" has made that

Prison Welfare League Blamed
For Reign of Terror at Auburn
In an affidavit filed by Mrs.
Gertrude M. Gore, she resists the
plea of her husband that the three
children be allowed to spend
Christmas afternoon with him. The
affidavit sets forth that the chil
dren have been suffering from a
light attack of the flu, and their
diet must be regulated; that, in
previous years the Christmas tree
has been held at the children's
home, not their grandparents';
that'the Christmas tree Is for the
purpose of influencing William,
oldest of the trio, in testimony he
may be called upon to give, and
that Jay I. Gore is actuated, not by
fatherly interest in his plea, but by
a desire to secure publicity, and to
"compare his wealth and plenty"
with the circumstances of tho
plaintiff. , .
During a short hearing; this
morning, there was a. lively .ex
change between Attorney Charles
Reames. representing Jay Gore,
and Attorney O. M, Wilklns, which
the court ended with firm admon
ishments from the bench.
In a petition filed late yesterday
In circuit court Jay h Gore asks
for the custody of his three minor
children on Christmas day between
the hours of noon and 6 o'clock,
on the grounds that his wife, Ger
trude M. Gore, who is suing him
for separata maintenance, "keeps
Hie children in the house and for
bids the defendant from seeing
i them."
The petition recites that the cus
tody of the children Is desired on
Christmas day for their company,
and to give them a Christmas tree
