nesday Stutiy club of Mruford was

Ijithia hotel by the Auhlund Study
club.
The beautiful dining room of
the Llthla hotel permits on artistic

made of the tables a gorgeous pic
ture. After . luncheon each Ashland
hostess escorted her Medford guests
to the ball room where the re
mainder of the afternoon was
spent.
Airs. J.' A. Churchill, the presi
dent of the Ashland club, presided
at the entertaining session that
followed. .Mrs. H.' C. Galey with
few words but deft and telling
descriptions gave current events,
national happenings and here and
there a vivid close-up of some
prominent personality.
Mrs. Victor Mills reviewed the
unusual book, "The Romance of
an .Art Career" by Chase. With
true artistic insight she brought
out for her hearers, the author's
more' technical explanations, and
with ,'Ftympathotio appreciation told
of some of his prominent sitters,
and his humorous experiences
both in America and in the. war
zone.
Mrs. Arthur Coggins reviewed
the book, "Great Poems of the
English Language." Her personal
knowledge of the author of this
authology and her, understanding
of poetry mudo easy for her this
difficult review.' Mrs. Coggins also,
read most beautifully several short
poems from this work. . , ,
Mrs. Grey, the president of the
Wednesday Study club, voiced the
appreciation of the entire mem
bership when she said that each
year that we have enjoyed the gra
cious hospitality of the Ashland
Study club' has seemed the best,
but this year in which wo were
acoepted into the inner circle of

the best. "
The Wednesday Study club will
meet in regular session on Wed
nesday, Nov. Gth with Mrs. Coch
ran, Mrs. Janes and Mrs. Harding
on the program.

The members of St. Mark's Guild
enjoyed a luncheon on Friday, No
vember 1st, at St. Marks Parish
house. About thirty members were
present.
After tho luncheon a beneficial
business meeting followed.
Next Friday, November 8th, the
officers will entertain with a card
party, to which the public in in
vited. On Friday, November 15th, there
will be held an all-day meeting, at
which time the members will meet
at 10 a. m. In the Parish hall and
sew for a bazaar to be held De
cember 7th. At that time there
win also be gevine a card party.

To Attract Legionnaires
! A largo number of local Legion ;
and Auxiliary members are plan
ning to attend the district conven
tion of the American Legion
i which is to take place at Ashland
Monday. Legionnaires and their
wives from all parts of District
No. 4 are expected to be present to
take part In the business session
which will occupy the most of the
afternoon. In tho evening a joint
banquet of legion men and women
will be held at the Klks club. Sev.
eral state department officials
from Portland are expected to be
among those present, both after

Tho Medford Garden club will

them, being careful not to do any

Successful Event,
Ono of the largest dance crowds
of the year attended the Legion
Hallowe'en party at the Oriental
Gardens Thursday evening. A
program of special features and
popular danco music made a hit
with the local dance fans who are
already looking forward to the
next Legion affair in pleasant an
ticipation. The "speed dance" con
gest proved a success and will prob-J
aoiy dc repeated at some luture
date. Much credft for the sun
cess of tho affair is due to tho
efficient committee in charge of
Henry Fluhrer, chairman.
This was the second of a
series of holiday dances sponsored
by; the local Legion post, the next
one being slated for Armistice day,
November 11th.

tractive radio recital by the Rosa
Blackmore Wllelt studio In the
near future, Mrs. Wlllet has been
training her pupils for the event
and is preparing a splendid pro
gram from the great master com
posers. Included in the group of
students to he presented will be
several new juvenile artists who
will make their debut over the'
local radio station for the first
time. 'The Wlllet recital will be
given through the courtesy of .the
California Oregon Power company.
