, "As a result of the large num
ber of protests registered by l'ans I
at the Wedford-Corvallls game Sat-i
urday, against the payment of 7u(
cents admission, it looks as if tliej
school authorities are faced with
the impossible task of giving Med
foid real football . at bush-league
prices," ' Principal D H. Conkle I
Htated today. .
( The erroneous opinion is preva
lent that the high school reaps
large profits from the games as a
result of the 75 cent admission,
end that the fans are paying more
than the school is justified In '
charging. - !
,'The returns from Saturday's i
gate receipts were $554, while the
total disbursements for expenses
of Corvallis, officials, etc., were,
$489. The profit of $65 is to be;
applied on the $C00 bill for equip-!
ment occurred at the beginning of
the season and the $200 doctor bill ;
that inevitably is accumulated dur- j
ing the season.
"It was necessary to guarantee
Corvallis the flat sum of $400 plus
25 per cent of the gate receipts,
and these terms were reached only
after considerable controversy," he
further stated.
Demand Good Games
The Modfonl fans have always k
demanded good games with the
lending schools of the state, and
the school authorities have always
signed contracts with as many
schools as practical. The result
has been that Medford has had
good schedules for the last several
years. ' Last year the Cheniawa In-'
dlans, Salem, Corvallis and Eugene
were scheduled, while this year
Corvallis and Eugene will have ap
peared on Van Scoyoc field.
. "If the present po'.'.zy. of'obtain
ing the best opponents available
is to continue, the fans must be
willing to pay the price, and if not,
then only southern Oregon schools
will be scheduled hereafter," Mr.H
Conkle added.
Tho 75 cent charge lias been'
