Announcement was mndo today
of a I'liango of name, of SUasgs
Safeway stores 111 tills city to
"Safeway Stores," dropping the
name "Sknggs."
This change Is said to he In har
mony with the general policy of
the company operating tho local
store to convert all of their stores
to Safeway Stores immediately.
I 1 he reason given for tho name be
: lug changed is the desire to sim
plify the name nnd make it one
which will be uniform throughout
the country. Officers of tho com
pany stuted that it was felt n
coined name was better to be used
for their stores than that of an In
dividual for many reasons.
In making the change, however,
officials took pains to emphasize
that the stores formerly known as
"Skaggs-Snfeway Stores" will con
tinue to be owned nnd operated by
the sumo people and in the same
manner as heretofore. M. 11.
Sknggs, who founded them, con
tinues in oxnctly the same rela
tionship to the organization that
he has always occupied nnd his
brothers nre associated with him
In tho sumo manner. The only
change that has. taken place Is that
of the nnmo nnd there has been no
change In policy or ownership.
