THE COURT HOUSE SITUATION
T1IKHK KeeniK to lie considerable inisiipirvliiiisioii retruriling
Jackson County's new court house. Jiidifinp; by some of
the comments heard, one. iitik'ltt .suppose lite County Court could
scleet a site anywhere within the county limits.
Obviously no such alternative exists. Medford is the county
stnt, and the County Court is obliged to select a site within its
corporate limits, which the city is obliged to furnish, t '
Naturally, under such circumstances, the city of Medford is
ijiixious to secure the most central, desirable and convenient
site obtaiimblfc; but it cannot dictate rcfritrdiiiK the matter, final
authority hMino exclusively with the County Court.
'
NOJt docs the selection of a central and desirable site mean
that Medford is considering the matter from its own stand
point alone without regard for the interests of the entire county.
jh lonf.as the court house must be in Medford, a convenient
and central location is as much to the interest of every district
in the couiitv as it is to Medford. It would lc unfair, for ex
ample, to the people Of Aslilnml to have the court house situ
ated on the northern outskirts of the city, as it would to the
people of Central I'oint and ICiikU; 1'oint to have it on the south
ern. In other words, a central and desirable location for Med
Tord meaiis a central and DKSIRAlii.K LOCATION FOR ALL
Tl'lE RESIDENTS OK JACKSON COUNTY,
BECAUSE it has been suggested that the, court house site is
dependent, more or less, upon Medford 's school Jmilding
program, the impression has gained ground that Medford is im
properly mixing up the court house, which is a county affair,
with its school system, which is exclusively a local affair.
Such an assumption is natural perhaps, but it also rests upon
a misapprehension. The only reason, the school building pro
grain !is considered M .all is because a great many people be
lieve that the present Washington school site would be an ideal
location' for the new court house'. And they also believe that if
Medford 's present growth continues this site will be available
in a year or two; perhaps sooner.
In short, the school program only enters as a necessary fac
tor in the main problem, which is the selection of the most
central and desirable court house site, both for Medford and
every 'district in Jackson County.' ' , ' i

E believe tlitit when the

at the earliest possible moment, consistent with securing the
best possible local ion, not only for the1 hriiuediatc present, but
for future generations.

DKAR Dr. Brady:
My kid brother hus taken
your advico In regard to non
brushing of teeth quite seri
ously. Consequently he lias
two or three cavities and still
retrains front using his tooth
brush.
I judged from your refer
ence to that topic that you ad
vocated the use of some mouth

he lias the wrong conception
of your advice? He insists you
sny It is not necessary to use
anything for them. I hope he
is mistaken. A dally mouth
wash may preserve his teoth.
This kid, I ought to mention,;
Is 21 years old, a college boy.'
Dut he is such an ardent ad
mirer of yours that he followa
your teuchings blindly. ( ,
If you have a moment to tell

cleanliness of the teeth with- '
out brushing them, I'll appre
ciate it.
MISS McR. G. M.
Dear me. what a relief it was to
discover that the kid is old enough
to have sense. For a while I felt
downright sad It looked as though
the kltls were .going to lot me
down. . .", , -'"'.;.' ,
So, sister, I had no mouth wash
or other substitute to ugget.
When 1 taught, as I still teach
when I dare, that brushing the
teeth Is a mere esthetic rite with
no appreciable relation to the pres
ervation of the teeth, I meant just
that. .-
However, I know of no better
moans' of keeping the teeth clean
in tho way you mean, than the
frequent scrubbing with the tooth
brush and whatever detergonuyoti
prefer,
It Is my belief that the j
eating of' such natural foods, as
frosli fruit", raw vegetables, raw
whole wheat, rice, oalj), not only
keeps the teeth physiologically
clean but Insures an adequate ra
tion of the mineral food and vita
mins that the scientists find are
essential for the development and
.preservation ot the teeth.
