Edison to Receive Nation's Tribute
On Anniversary of Light Invention
DETROIT, Mich., Oct. 19. ()
Coming to receive a nation's trib

ills invention of the iucamlencent
electric Unlit, Thomas A. Edison
arrived here from Orange, N. J.; to
tiny. Traveling In the private car
of Henry, Ford, the Inventor went
immediately to the Ford estate,
"Fair Lane," ut Dearborn nnd
planned to keep out of the public
eye until Monday evening when
President Hoover will voice the
nation's greeting in formally dedi
cating the new Edison Institute of
Technology established by Mr. Ford
In his early American village at
Dearborn. ', '
Light's own ' tribute to Edison
will be n flood of modern illumina
tion that will bathe the new Edi
son Institute during the ceremonies
Monday night. To give the cele
bration the atmosphere of 1871),
however, the restored Menlo Park
buildings and the reproduction of
independence hall, which is the
principal unit of the early Ameri
can village, will be illuminated
only by Lullow - candles and oil
lamps.

"Udisijn's -, ectrla .light.1 incred:

strip of paper thnt a breath would

sunset of on Italian autumn. . . . .
The paper is baked In an oven

There follows a description of
the light bulb's construction and,
"this light, the Inventor claims, can
be produced cheaper than that
from the cheapest, oil. Were It not
for the phonograph, the quadnlplex
telegraph, and the various other
remarkable productions of the
great Inventor, the world might
well hesitate to accept his assur

his past achievements in science
are sufficient guarantee that his
claims are not without foundation."
