her.
At first she wouldn't return his
kisses, but as he persisted, her
lips gradually became soft and
yielded. The next moment, with
a. half sob, sho had clasped him

ger that made hlra utterly, entire
ly repentant.
"Oh, Ray, I've been so lonely
... so rottenly lonoly for you
Speaking over her head he said:
"Lot's go back to New York
at once. I'm all eager to get to
grips with the situation fight my
way through nnd make you proud
of mo. You'll help me, won't you,
Barbara?"
His eyes pleaded with her and
there was a tremor of desperate
earnestness in his voice.
"Yes, wo can go back homo.

The condition of Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Scott, who have been seri
ously, ill, is slightly Improved. Mr.
Scott will undergo a second opera
tion at the Sacred Heart hospital
as soon as his condition permits. .
The high school freshman class
will be initiated by the upper
clauses tonight.
The school board met Monday
night and voted to purchase the
necessary laboratory equipment to
allow for the teaching of jihysics
in. high school. Many students
have taken the new subject this
