EAGLE POINT GRANGE
Eagle Point Grange hold an In
teresting session lost Tuosday even
ing. October 1,
Several visitors word present
from Bams Valloy, Central Point
nnd othor Granges, as usual.
A largo class was initiated and
another group votod on favorably.
ICurcly do wo havo a meeting that
wo do not tnko In new members.
The Clrango Is growing rapidly, not
only hero, but elsewhere, and with
tho growing membership coineB an
added responsibility to make It
worth while; to ndd something to
the lives of tho memliors that will
benefit them; to make a lasting im
predion on thorn of tho high moral
standnrd upon which tho Grange
Is hullt, and of tho obligation
placed upon every member to do
his or her bit to raise and keep
tho social standards of tho com
muulty on a high moral plane.
While tho Grongo gives an op
portunlty for tho enjoyment of
many pleasant social activities, yet
wo must not loso track of the fact
that the llfo of a consistent Grang
cr Is ono of service to humanity,
and humanity Is never served by
lowering tho social standards, but
by elevating them.
It Is tho duty of a Grange to
strive to create a desire for clean,
wholosomo amusement and for en
tertainment which stimulates the
inind as well as. furnishes enter
tainment; to discourage nil un
wholesome amusement which has
a 'endency to coarsen or destroy
the finer sensibilities by Indulging
in tho common nnd sensuous.
The Grange has a wonderful op
portunity to counteract tho influ-
onco of much , of tho demoralizing
amusement offered to tho young
pcopla of today, by providing
amusement which Is true recrea
tion which rbcrontos mentally
and physically, leaving ono better
fitted to taka up the duties of llfo
with nn adiled Interest.
The principal fenturo of tho lec
ture hour last Tuesday night was
a leeturo given by N. C. Wostorflcld
of Medford.
Tho. subject of this leeturo wns
'Llfo nnd lis Struggles," In which
ho used ns Illustrations ninny curi
osities of plant llfo and their strug
gle to adapt themsolves to environ
ment. Ho paid a glowing tribute
lo Luther liurbank and his servlco
to humanity, giving to tho world
many vegetables, fruits nnd
flowers with which ho had worked
years to bring them from a prac
tically worthless Btato to ono of
usefulness, or beauty, or grcator
adaptability.
Anil then tho keynote of tho talk
was given In his statement thnt tho
human family had tho samo con
tinual slrugglo to uiako llfo worth
whllo nnd ndaptablo to environ
ment; that no matter what our
alms or tho slrugglo to reach our
aim, wo must all roallxo that serv
ice tn humanity Is tho only thing
that brings happiness.
It was Indeed Interesting to nolo
with What intent Interest tho
young people listened to every word,
seemingly completely ubsujbed in
tho subject.
An assembly song nnd two vio
lin solos with piano accompani
ment by Mr. and Mrs. Cowdon
completed tho program which wns
one of tho most Interesting wo havo
bad tor k long time.
At the next regular meeting on
Tuesday, October 15, tho senior de
gree team will confer tho third and
fourth degrees on a largo class.
On Saturday night, October D.
tho Sams Valley Grango gavo J.'
play, "Mammy's L'll Wild lloso,"
to a well filled houso.
This was a particularly plenstng
play, full of southern sentiment
and atmosphere and was much vu
Joyed by all present.
Tho proceeds were divided be
tween tho Sams Valley and tho
Kagto Point Granges.
Tho Uugto Point Grango takes
this opportunity to thank tho Sams
Valley Grango for Its neighborly
cooperation In bringing tho play
to Kuglo Point.
