Mr. McDonald's reception
will be that accorded to roy

here with her father, will
seem old-fashioned to many of
our rising female generation.
She does not smoke or 'drink
iilcuhulie liquors and does not
paint or powder her face.
And .most old-fashioned of
all, she does look after her
father and take o serious in
terest in public ufl'airs.
If you see Kanisay Mae
Donald, labor prime minister
of Orcitt Britain, you may also
see Miss Rosie Kosenberg,
vivacious, able young woman,
the prime minister's private
secretary.
Miss Kosenberg joined the
N Socialist party in , London
'. i lcvcu years' ago and, lias' been
MacDonald's secretary nine
years. ';
Observe t lie difference be
tween "democratic America"
and "conservative Great Brit

.Socialist party, and talk "that
way," you stand a fair chance
of being locked up. In Brit
ain you may become, secretary
to the prime minister.
The tragic rebellion of con
victs in the Colorado state
prison ended yesterday morn
ing with l."0 convicts walking
out, hands raised above their
heads, in surrender.
Four leaders of the rebellion
hud killed themselves. During
- the night the convicts, at in--Intervals,
had thrown out of an
upper window the bodies of
guards captured and murdered
by them, the' .warden liaviug
on each occasion refused to let
t hem go free.
Once a prison inninte was a
poor and miserable creature,
w i I h poor and miserable
friends, it. any.
Some woman, sad-faeed,
might come to see the man in
jail, bringing her child, to see
him, through the bars, giving
him, perhaps, a few cent's
worth of tobacco.
That drugs played a part in
the Colorado outbreak, with
its reckless disregard for
;ialh, and its suicides, seems
probable.
(inards will learn fl-uin the
Colorado tragedy to watch
their prisoners carefully, and
-to watch, with especial care,
any guard or other person en
gaged in the prison drug trade.
