Lindbergh Is a wonderful flyer, one of this Nation's most pre
cious possessions.
' Kor that reason it Is too bad that ho cannot be persuaded lo
exorcise reasonable' caution.
An accident to Colonel Lindbergh would bo, as Prcsldont Hoo
ver has said, "A great blow to tlia affections of Ilia United Stntes."
It would nloo bo a great blow to aviation In the I'nlted States,
which perhaps Interests Colonel Lindbergh more.
It would check the progress of aviutlnii seriously, arousing
great disturst. Arthur I'.rlsbaue.
TJiiCRE is fonsitlenilik' trulli to tliis. Any ucc-itU'iit that'
would remove Liiidln'ioli from the scone would louvo a
void in Anici'ioflii aviation which no one could fill.
Hut no one would deny more cmplialichlly tliuu Lindy hiui
Helf the assertion that he docs not use reiiHonuble pant ion. The
only possible exception whs when he recently stunted over the
Cleveland field, 1111 example of elumce-tfikiiifr, which we have
never Keen satisfactorily explained.
As a general rule, however, we believe that Lindbergh does
exercise reasonable caul ion, never takes avoidable chances, and
has been saved from serious mishap, not by luck, but by the
constant exercise of good sense and skill.
And when one eomeH down to Hie essentiuls the situation
with Lindbergh is simply Ibis: ho must do one of two things:
Either keep on flying, or piit flying entirely.
WITH him, there can be no middle ground. He is the lone
eagle. And he is going to remain the lone eagle as long
as ha lives. He not only believes in aviation, aviation made him
what he is, it is his life.
Ho no matter what Mr. Brisbane thinks or anyone else thinks,
Lindbergh is going to keep on flying. Ife may drop stunting
entirely. He should do this, in our opinion, not only for his
own sake, Hie sake of his wife and family and friends, but for
the suke of aviation.
lint he will never lake off his wings, anil contentedly take
his place with other "crawling things." Feet on the ground
and eyes on the cash register aro not for him. His career was
made in the air, and in the air it will end.
And when one considers all angles of the situation, that
seems to us rather fitting, quite ns it. should be. Let others be
concerned about playing safe, and saving their super-precious
skins:
Let the gallant spirit or Lindy forever sing:
"I'll fly with thee! I'll fly with thee!
We'll make with joyful wing
Our annual voyage o'er the globe,
Companions of the Spring!"
OREGON LEADS
R'
motor travel which wo believe is not generally known.
For many years it has been heralded about that California
leads all other states in Oregon motor travel.
Hut nothing has been said about Oregon motor travel in
California.
Now statistics compiled by Texaco Travel Service shows that
Oregon leads the country in motor travel over the Golden Gate
commonwealth.
The list is as follows:
Tho thirteen stales that sent tho largest number of automo
biles Into this stale tiro given In tho report ns follows: Oregon,
11,120; WuKliluglon. 10,620; Arizona 4S34; Colorado, 4(150: Illi
nois, -1200; Texas, 4020; Ohio. 321(1; 'New York. 2S70; Michigan,
2780; Oklahoma iit'.Ou; Kansas, 24110; Utah, U 1 00, nnd -Missouri,
2000.
The peak of this travel is in the winter, while the peak of
the California travel to Oregon is in the summer.
This is reciprocity. California leads in Oregon ami Oregon
leads in California. In the matter of tourist travel the stale
that flies with its own wings is certainly doing its sliaro.

The little black clock had cer
tainly succeeded in turning the
time way back, thought John anil
Peggy.
'I'lie limn they bad been noticing
wore Iho nkin ol' some animal
around his body. Ills hair was
long, lie wore no shoes, no stock
ings. He had a beard. 11c looked
very rough, very wild. He was Just
starling a fire, they believed.
John and Peggy thought of go
ing toward him. But they dectdeil
they would wait for the little black
clock to make a suggestion.
It was the little black clock who
had been given the magic which
made it possible for him to turn to
any time he wanted at all.
It was the little black clock who
had Invited them to come on ad
ventures with him.
It was the little black clock who
took them off at bedtime every
evening, brought them back with
out their realizing it and, the next
evening, let them begin their ad
ventures Just where they had left
off.
Perhaps some would have snid
these adventures interrupted sleep.
Itut they didn't. It was all part of
tho little black clock's magic. Ho
could make up their sleeping tim
for them just making an hour
into two, and two hours Into four.
So they waited for tho little
Muck clock to speak. However, it
wns not tho llttlo black clock who
spoke first.' It was the wild look
ing man. And ho began to shout;
his eyes sparkled with excitement.
Neither Peggy nor John could
understand what he said, but ns lie
shouted there came up a second
flame. They had seen the fire start.
Then the wild mun rushed Into his
cave. Other members of the fam
ily camo out.
They nil looked wild, too.
"What Is it all about?" Peggy
asked.
"What do they seo besides the
small fire that makes them so ex
cited" John asked.
"It's the fire itself," the llttlo
black clock answered. "The man
has Just discovered fire. They've
never seen fire before. They never
