uembly or the l,euue of Nations,
1 Jfc'hen he made a stirring tribute to
"he decade of work by the league
and scourged war makers and all
those who secretly foster the spirit
of war in tlm coming generations.
When in his memorable address
lie sent forth an appeal to the
i women of the-world to protect their
: children from false ideas of strife
and from those doctrines calculat
ed to inculcate prejudice and ha
tred among peoples, the great an
. dience which packed the assembly
hall burst into wild and prolonged
; cheers.
The French premier contented
himself with a modest reference to
his project for u "United Rtutes
Of Europe," saying that, although
his idea had been described as a
dream, he was convinced that the
- nations of Europe could establish
closer lies to their mutual benefit.
He asked the governments to
. fltudy this problem, remarking sig-
tiificantly that in addition to mill
. tary disarmament there was an
) ' lher kind of disarmament that
was necessary, and that was a:i
. economic one, he believed this
problem should he. attacked from
Hie political standpoint. , .

When Butte Falls School Board
Meets Knotty Problems Argued
Into Wee Small Hours of Night
given the Job for $ t T a month. As
there are only u:out I'O school days
to the month, some thought this
high, tiillis Comtwrlght. another
director, was their mouthpiece, and
maintained that bids should be
posted immediately and that tem
porary provision only should be
made lor the remaining 1" or IS
days of this month.
While the motion wavered in the
ether and Mr. Coutrwgiht argued
the case of the taxpayer, the audi
once shifted forward in their seats,
Mrs. Simmerviile asked her choice
for the job what he could charge
by the day for the remaining days
of the month.
The man allowed that it would
cost him exactly $:") a day to haul
the II) children six miles. He
couldn't possibly do it for any less.
Again an awful silence and the au
dience looked its neighbor in the
eye.
A Mr. Weber In the back of the.
room cleared his throut.
"I'M beat, that all hollow. I'll
haul the kids for $2.50," he said.
There was a relieved gale of laugh
ter from the spectators, Mr.
Weber was the sensation of the
moment.
The $5 man, catching the fire of
competitive bidding, came down to
$2. He was Tn the verge of be
ing accepted when he wanted to
know who would handle the insur
ance on his vehicle. Ho couldn't
do it, he said. There was the next
knotty problem before the hoard.
He withdrew his $2 bid.
Kinally. Mr. Coutright, the direc
tor, to settle the argument, offered
to transport half of the children
for the remainder of the month,
free of charge In his own car. Mr.
Weber stepped forth and offered
free transportation to the other
half.
Then came a bombshell from a
man in the back of the room, who
insisted that the two volunteers
be charged for their generosity by
requiring them to take out bonds
insuring the lives and safety of
the children. And so on and on
into the night.
