but essentially harmless partisan enthusiasm, he evoked, rather
than hostility or rac

for his own enjoyment ami that of his friends.
AS the world whirls on its merry way, the death of Colonel
Washburn will pass unnoticed, lint when ho left this val

friends throughout the state, today, a sincere and silent toast
to the "(.'olonel" is passed.
And when one comes to think about it, in that fact lies both
a tribute and a fitting epitaph. For while Colonel Washburn
was very much a man of the world, he was even more 'a man
of his friends."
