in this hoy's mind until his
thoughts were filled with art and
beauty, often he looked longingly
across the waters to where, (10
miles distant, was situated the city
of Cleveland, In the United States.
He wished to go there.
Finally, after reading about the
various art courses offered in
New York state at Pratt institute,
he boarded a steamer during the
Faster holidays and took passage

mal art and manual training
course.

After this M r. Fen ton went, to
Columbia university, electing both
fine and industrial arts, specializ
ing In the latter, receiving as a
result his muster's degree at Co
lumbia. After this, to quote Mr. Fenlon,
he said "To carry out and develop
tho educational Ideas which 1 se
cured at these institutions, 1 was
attracted to a country vastly dif
ferent from my native Ontario or
the grandeur of New York state.
I went to western Canada. There,
In the immense prairie province
of Saska telle wan I had several
years experience In high school
and normal school work.
"At first I found the prairie
country flat and monotonous, and
felt the lack of trees to be an
unpardonable mission, but as the

fascination. I learned to love it
and enjoyed many walks along
the Saskatchewan river.
Latei seeing the Rockies proved
a memorable thrill, nnd a summer
spent in Vancouver, Victoria, Se

alluring that another summer was
spent with 'the Alpine club In the
Banff district, hiking, scaling
mountain peaks and enjoying the
