brought before the IJons club to
day by A. J. Crose, who is one of
v the five field men now accom

That the ve t e ra n co m m issio n
is one of the most efficiently or

with a force of office girla re-

The month of July so far has sion , severe scalp lacerations and

through Thief Koy Elliott, who Is
sued .a warning this morning
against what he believes is a prev
alence of carelessness.
Numeroas grass fires have oc-
t and necessitated sending trucks
and nfen. These, he said, are in
practically every case caused by
thoughtlessness.
Three fires were extinguished
by the department this morning.
The first, a grass fir, on the cor
ner of South J'each, .ih soon put
out when the chemical truck ar
rived on the scene. A little later
a call came from 21 Dakota uve

The third was a car fire, caused
by a shorted battery. The proper
ty of 1111 Henry, the car was park
ed on North Central, when the
flame burst. Fire trucks were
., sent to the scene. No serious dam
age was done in-any of the cases.
Time, tide and the Southern
Pacific nre alleged to wait for
no man. But the Shasta, accord
ing to a number of witnesses,
- stopped and backed up for a wo
man this noon.
According to reports, a local
; passenger was undetermined
whether or not to leave Medford
this morning. ' Conceded a wo
man's privilege, she changed her
mind several times during the
brief Interval which preceded the
train's departure. As the engine
began to pull toward the north,
she is said to have reached her
final decision and called for them
to stop.
Gallantry Is not yet dead, ap
parently, for, according to the
story, the men around the station
taxed the volume of their lungs
jind waved their arms frantically
"in an effort to flag the train.
The Shasta courteously stopped
and took the anxious one aboard.
