'The Desert Song." the first talk
ing and singing operetta ever
s h o w n on the motion picture
screen, and a screen play which
marks a new milestone in the up
ward progress of the sound film.
It will be tho offering at Hunt's
Craterian theater beginning Sun
day. With the possible exception of
New York City, nowhere else but
in Hollywood could such an array
of singers be obtained for chorus
work. The roster includes former
stars of comic opera and musical
comedy, both men and women, as
well as many soloists who are well
known to radio audiences of Los
Angeles broadcasting stations.
One hundred singers comprise
the chorus of "The Desert Song,"
nd r.yer rehearsed , for three
weeks'? prior ' to 'the beginning of
actual production of the picture
by Ernest O. Grooney, the well
knewn English conductor.

ing sequences is claimed to have
the widest range of sets and loca
tions seen to date in a talking pic
ture. Tho film opens today at
Hunt's Craterian.
To illustrate how the talking pic
tures have gotten out of the stage
of simple talking scenes all of
which take place in a few rooms,
the new production has settings in
a drawing room of a fast-moving
Pullman railroad car, the offices of
il political boss, the home of a dis
trict attorney, the audience and
the stage of u theater; two differ
ent apartments in a hotel, a jail
ami police chiefs office, a night
chili with Its main and adjoining
rooms, railroad stations, the lawn
of a suburban homo and various
city streets where more action
takes place. Thus it may be seen
that the range of talking pictures
has advanced far In the last few
months.
