COURT HOUSE SHE
INTERESTS COUNTY
Medford folks seem to be get-1
ting all excited about the location
of the new county court bouse and
we want to call attention to the
fact that It Is NOT a Medford In
stitution, but rather It Is n COUN
TY court house, und as such not
nolely the benefit to -Medford, but
l-alher the convenience of the re
mainder or the county should be
given some consideration.
There are sites galore bolus of
fered, It would seem. The Med
ford city hall is at present serving
as the county court house. When
the. removal of the court house
from Jacksonville to Medford was
finally accomplished there were
some strings tied to the deal. Med
ford was to furnish temjiorarly
quarters for the county offices to
serve until the new court house
was built Jledford is also to fur
nish the site for the new court
house the county court of course
to pass Judgment on the site be
foro final acceptance.
The Medford city hall was con
Htructed to meet the first provi
sion and has furnished excellent
ouurters for the county officers.
Now the problem of a site has
tome up and must be solved. Opin
ions vary widely. Half a dozen or
more sites have been suggested.
- V
Now the county court house will
do a bigger out-of-town business
than any mercantile establishment
In Medford. It will draw a maxi
mum of out-of-town folks to the
city, for it Is a COUNTY institu
tion and the business of the
COUNTY and not Medford alone
will be carried on within Its por
tals. .
Therefore one of the major
needs to be considered in the se
lection of a site for the building
Is parking space for automobiles.
Any site which does not furnish
ample parking space, or is in the
least hit inconvenient to reach,
should not be considered.
This would eliminate the sites
In the heart of Medford.
And there is much more to be
said. Ashland Tidings.
FOR S. 0 N. S. BUILDING
ASHLAND, June 22. (Special)
In order that the Southern Ore

Hal Hoss, Secretary of State, sug

tlint it would be an admirable
advertising feature for the state.
Secretary Hoss, in company with

Helen Morgan,
Noted Song Bird,
in Show Boat
Helen Morgan, who is seen and
heard in haunting negro melodies
in "Show Itoat." the super-talking
picture coming to Hunt's Cruterian
theatre tomorrow, is one of New
York's most popular stage ami
night life figures. Not only is
she a star in the Klorenz Ziegfeld
musical extravaganza, "Show
Hoat", but is one of the stars in
the impresario's mid-night roof
show, Ziegfeld's Frolic. She also
has a Night Club of her own. in
which she sings her various song
hits and acts as hostess.
In the talking picture, "Show
Boat." she sings several of the
songs with which she made such
a stage hit in the Ziegfeld produc
tion. Her crooning voice, her in
dividual gestures and the inde
scribable spirit she puts into her
rendition of these folk-songs and
ballads, makes excellent enter
tainment. "Show Doat" has tin lira La
Ptante and Joseph Schildkraut
as the young lovers. Otis Harlan
is Capt'n Andy and Emily Fiuroy
is Parthy Ann Hawks. Alma Hu
bens plays Julie in the picture.
HERE JUNE 24 AND 25
Sergeant Jennings D. Lowman
from the Klamath Falls recruiting
office of the regular army, will be
in Medford at the Postoffice build
ing, on Monday and Tuesday. June
24th and 23t1i. During that time
the sergeant would be pleased to
meet any of the young men who
might want to investigate any of
the possibilities or probabilities of
army service.
At this time the t'nited States
army is slightly over strength, due
to the ever increasing number of
re-enlistments. According to the
sergeant, thousands of men who
have investigated, enlisted and
found out for themselves, rather
than accept secondhand Informa
tion and advice from the unin
formed, are re-enlisting within 90
days following discharge. A few
men can be accepted at this time
for Hawaii. Panama, Alask. China
ami a few of our stations in the
west and northwest.
