sehool lass, when she first en
tered business. It was funny how
it started. She went into a little
millinery shop where the Crate
Irian theater Is now located, to buy
J a hat. Uefore'she left she owned
the store. The woman who then
j ran It was going to get married
and was ready to close. Lottie
decided she wanted to buy. Hhe
J talked her parents into staking
her.
An experienced milliner was

hired to run the shop while the
high school girl went to tfan Fran
cisco and studied the trade under
Madame Williams of that city.
Then she went to Portland and
took a special course under
Madame Wineburg. clever de
signer, who had' spent three years
In Paris.
When Lottie came back to Med
ford she still looked like too much
of a "kid" to be taken seriously.
So she did up her hair, donned
long skirts (they wore them
then), and went to work in
earnest.

tion on North Central. Shti has
been there 20 years. There she
always enjoyed a substantial
profit, even when other shops
were going broke.
"The place has endeared Itself
to mo. I've known many happy
hours here, and have seen many
changes, both In the millinery
business and In Medford. But
there Is a time to make a change
even In tho millinery world
and 20 years seems quite long
enough," she said smilingly this
morning.
