it ws Vgted unanimously , that
all fruit cj-rV, thfr t-ominv season,;
be salted after loading. This no
tion was taken at the behest of
the Southern -Pacific railroad and'
the Pacific Fruit Express, who
held that this would expedite the:
handling of fruit shipments. by1
eliminating switching. Ilepresen-;
tativts of fruit distributors not'
present at ih meeting will be'
asked to concur. t
Shippers at the meeting agreed"
that salting after loading would
in reaso the benefits of the salt, !
and that they would receive the
full value of the salt, under thai
new plan, when most needed j
when the fruit was rolling thru :
the hot Sacramento valley. There
was no change sought in the per j
cent age of salt. !
The Traffic association also
voted to endorse the revised plan
of the Host: (; rowers' committee
for the extension of the Hose peur
miirUet to Detroit, and the adver
tis ng plan prbposcd.
Daid liosenherg oalled the at
(ention id' the shippers to his plan
for a rearrangement of packer
rules in local packing plants. He
declared that better result could
be obtained by keeping the packer
at the same size pours, day by j
day. instead of rotating them every,
hour. Air. Rosenberg also de-.-emd
the use of bags in picliine
pears, claiming that the fruit was j
damaged. He favored the use of j
pails. He said he did not care j
what pail was used, as long as ill
was a pail. The Rosenberg l!ruth-j
ers manufacture a picking pail, I
that is recognized as valuable
in orrhard harvesting.
The suggestions of Air. liosen
herg will be fully discussed at an
early meeting, it was indidated.
A carload of nails to bo used
in the local fruit industry, is 'on
its way f'-om the factory, C C
Darby, chairman of the nail com
mittee reported.
J. K. Kdmiston favored" the ap
pointment of a committee-to study
bills passed by the legislature un
feeling the industry. The chair
man ruled this was not within the
province of the association.
The annual election of officers
of the Traffic association, will be
held the last Thursday In June,
instead of the first Thursday of
.Inly, which falls this year upon
Independence Day. An opinion
handed -down by Attorney lUiwles
Moore held that the advance in
the election day would be legal.
A president, a pair of vice-presidents,
two di rectors, and a secre
tary and a treasurer will be
elected.

SCHOOL BOARD POST
Tlie annual election of the Mod
ford school district, which in re
cent years has become a uuite
mild affair compared with t:ie
school elections for years prior
thereto, hern u He of the utmost har
mony that has existed both in
school hoard and general school
affairs, and the general confident
feeling of tne public that the
i-chools are well managed, will
take place oti Juno 17 between the
hours of 2 and 7 p. m.
Two directors are to be elected
to fill the expiring terms of Dr.
U. K. fireen and ('. A. Swigart.
It is because of this feeling of
confidence that the school authori
ties and leading friends of the
schools are already busy at search
ing out able candidates to run, in
case Alo.ssrs. Swigart and Green
absolutely refuse 'to run for an
other term.
Neither is a tentative or passive
candidate, feeling tiiat they have
done their duty by serving three
years, and it is understood thai to
cement continued harmony on the
boa ild, quite a number of friends
of the schools are at work trying
to induce them to run to succeed
themselves.
The holdover member of the
school board will be N. M. Frank
ling. Howard Scheffel and t.
