WINXIPKO, June 2. A success
ful nttempt to carry on a telephone
conversation from a moving Arain
to a given number ! the city, was
mode on Aluy 5tb, by the Canadian
National Railways. The operation
was as simple as that a subscriber
would use in making a long dis
tance call and the conversation was
quite distinct, also the train was
travelling at about twenty miles an
hour Ht the lime. ,
The experiment took place out
side- of Toronto and was carried on j
while the train was proeeoding for;
a considerable distance westward, j
The first call was put in by W. X). j
Kobb, vice president of the Cana-j
dian National Hallways, who talk-j
ed with W. (i. liar her, general j
manager of the Canadian National'
Telegraphs. Mr. Kobb was on board '
the train ami Mr. Harbor at the j
head office of the telegraph do-1
parlment in the heart of Toronto.
SuKsequently varios newspaper j
men and officials on board the
train also spoke. In addition aj
iflegram of congratulations from j
?;r i inry mormon, president oi
the company, was delivered to thoe
on hoard the train and was receiv
ed quite distinctly.
. novel feature was the fact that
Mr. Kobb'.s conversation telephon
ed f.'om the train was transmitted
from the telephone in Toronto to
the microphone of CNKT. the ra
dio station of the Canadian Na
tional Hallways in Toronto, and
broadcast by that station and re
ceived through the receiving set on
board the train from which Mr.
Hobb was speaking.
In addition to officers of the
company, and the Kell Telephone
Company, the experiment was wit
nessed by a large group of news
paper men from eastern Canada
and the United States.
