Treating seed potatoes with cor

face: borne diseases may be done
some time before planting without
decreasing its effectiveness, advises
the Oregon experiment station. It
Is necessary tliat the potatoes be
treated whole and that the eyes
should nut have begun to grow at
.he Utile, as injury to growing
points and germination may result.
' During the warm days of spring
in Oregon, lice and mites multiply
rapidly on the chicken and around
tli roosting quarters. The best
treatment for body lice is to paint
tho' roots with black leaf forty
just before tho chickens go on for
the' night. One application will last
two days and will rid the fowls of
lice. Painting the under side of
tlm, roos'.s and connections with
undiluted rurbollncum or sheep dip
Will' eliminate mitey, suVs the ' exr-periim-nt
station.
The oasential points in tho pre
vention of powdery mildew of
grapes is tho begin early and use
repeated application's of fine sul
fur dust until the middlq of the
summer, when the danger of mil
dew damage is practically over,
says the Oregon experiment sta
tion. Kgg production In Oregon usual
ly drops the last of May. To help
prevent this. ' successful poultry
men feed a moist mash at noon at
the' rate of U.ree pounds per 100
birds: Tr,o dry . mash, moistened
with r.iiik and made crumbly, may
be fed t' the birds for two weeks,
with god results, finds the experi
ment station.
