the construction of 1I1U juoinsed cut-off. But because of this
fact, we fail to aprce with those who believe Medford should
oppose the proposed construction, and do everything possible to
prevent it. .,
An overwhelming proportion' of the tourists from the north

Medford, Central Point and Crauts I'ass. The. same rule applies
to those who will visit'Crater Lake from Klanuirh Falls, Kast.

they go out another. ,. .. ,
Instead of opposing new feeders, new lines of communica

What applies to Crater Lake applies to the Oregon Caves.
The proposed Williams Creek construction, for example, would
uot only benefit Medford mid Williams Creek, ut Grants I'ass
and all the intervening territory. t . . ' '
Let's get together ou this tourist business, not fight among
ourselves. This would not uidy be a nicer spirit, but one that
would pay each, district iu this part of the state more revenue

AVhere any railroad enjoys a monopoly, it also enjovs a co-

No matter how strong public

FOUTUNATKtA' those in a position of authority, to decide a
question of thu sort, realize the situation perfectly. They
have more reliable means of determining public sentiment than1
by perusiu(j blue cards of a self-interested railroad.
Ninety per cent of the people of Southern Oregon, want the
Hill lines hooked up in this pari of the coast, not because they
have any particular hostiiiiy toward the Southern Pacific; but
because they believe n, competing lino opening up new terri
