has had a very successful year,
having mado notable achievements

outstanding achievement : of the
year, has been admission to mem
bership In the Northwest Associa
tion of . colleges and secondary
Bchools. Only 5t schools In the
state have been admitted to mem
bership In this, association. Its
standards! are very hlffh and only
schools doing an excellent quality,
of work are admitted.

for the members of the high school

with dark coats and the girls wore
very dainty frocks' in J varying
shades.
The music was under the dlrec

and appropriate to the occasion.
Mrs. Krank Davis presided at the
pipe organ and was assisted by
Mrs. II. T. Mltchelmore. A vocal
Rolo by Mrs. K. O. Smith was a
particularly pleasing number.
Jack RHks, athletic coach of the
Ashland high school, was back at
his work on Monday after an ab
sence of two weeks due to an Ill
ness and operation for appendi
citis. P. Thomas of Astoria spent the
week end veiling at the home of
.Mrs. Ada Clandee on North Main
mreet. Mr. Thomas la in southern
Oregon for a few days to attend
the I. O. R convention at Med
ford. Senior examinations were given
nt the senior high school bn Mon
day for all members who were not
fortunate in having exemption
grades. The seniors are now thru
with their -work and will enjoy a
vacation of two weeks.

Representatives of tho state deaf
association and some other Port
land citizens appeared before the
-state hoard of control yesterday to
protest against the administration
of J. Lyman Steed as superintend
ent of the state school for the deaf.
The complaint was that Steed is
unable to keep teachers nt the
school and that 10 of the 13 teach
ers now employed will not be at
the school next year.
