main cause of delay in getting the
fire truck to the fire was the time
It took for someone to get to the
fire bell and ring it.' Inside of
five minutes afte,t the bell was
rung the truck was at the flro and
plenty of men there to mifn the
hose. If It were possible to In-'
stull an electric siren ut the fire
station with a switch in the tele
phone office, so that all anyone
would have to do would be to tele
phone "central" there whs fire, and
the location. All "central" would
have to do In throw the switch

volnteers. The city could huve a
phone tn stalled in the fire statnm
and the first volunteer there. could
call "central 'and get the loca
tion of the fire and the truck could
be on the scene In less than one
