SIGHTSEEING TOUR IS
t
IN CONCLAMS
Preparations for th I. O. O. V.
Krn nl lodgo MeKfllons next week In
this city are entering the laut BtnKca
of completion, and indications now
nro that everything planned for the
care, comfort and pleasure of th
larse delPBatlon of viwitors will be
in readinejw when the lode dclo-
trateR begin to arrive Bunday.
-There in pojmibly ono exception,
and that Is the siKhtseelns tour.
To date not enough cars have been
Volunteered to assure the eucceaa
of this proponed feature. C, C.
Hdover and hin asHistanta are ac
tively engaged in securing the
requisite number of cars, but so far
there in considerable of a shortage.
Mr. Hoover Ah appealing to the
citizens of Medford to-rally to his
undertaking. It is not alone the
idea to afford the visitors a pleas
ant littlo auto jaunt, but to give
them a panoramic view of some
of the industries and other things
which contribute to the develop
ment of this, valley In general and
Medford -in -particular. .
It Is anticipated that the con
vention' delegations when their
labors oro ended, , will afecord Mod
ford -citizens a premier place for
enterprise, prosperity and hospitality;--but
It. is desired to have the
further and equatly important rec
ollection that Medford Is a wonder
ful little setting Jn one of the nat
ural valley gems of the west. -
People can gain more in a few
hours of touring and , Inspection
than, -they can In literature and
talk, "What niay .be said would
probably In a short time be for
gotten, but what the eye conveys
to the mind lingers indefinitely.
Those citizens, therefore, who
have tho public Interest at heart
should respond more encouragingly
to Mr. Hoover's solicitation and
see that there wilt be ample cars
to take care of the crowd. - It Is
as. much, If not more,, to their Interest'-
to Bee this undertaking
through to a success.
Thetrip proposes a-drive through
the box factory und mill district
nortlf of the city, then out to the
airport grounds, oh through Cen
tral Point to tho West Side drive
way, through historic Jacksonville,
along the south foothills to Phoenix
and baok to Medfprd. It Is esti
mated the trip will consume about
an hour and a half, and afford
quite a gllmpso of the Industrial
rosourcos hereabouts.
-, But bear in -mind the success of
this undertaking depends upon the
cooperation ' of the people In pro
viding oars. To -date the number
Is quite shy. Por those having
oars, but ; unable ; to accompany
them, goodi' responsible drivers will
be furnished.
The outing season Is always
heralded by the anguished cry of
the first bathers, first hikers and
first tourists who succumb to the
pain of sunburn, poison ivy, and
insect stings and bites, etc. A little
caution, the observance of. a few
time-honored rules, and proper
first aid. equipment will save many
hours -of pain.
An authority on out-of-doors
says: "At IchhI one member of
earn party ediuuld know or ac
quaint himself with the appear
ance of poison Ivy, should know
the habits and signs of poisonous
insects, the methods of artificial
respiration and the more ordinary j
phases it first aid, and should be j
equipped a first aid ktt of!
some nort.
"One of the most useful rcme-
die to any party Is Pyrol, former- J
ly known as Antl-Pyrexol, a well i
known ointment.
."Whon starting on a camping
trip, supplies should be packed so
that the first aid kit is at the top
of tho pack, ready In case of emer
gency, Then when It Is needed,
there 1 no confusion, no bewil
dered searching thru every bundle,
no loss of time in treating what
ever troubles might arose. .
"These few precautions at the
(Start, will prevent many dlsagree-
aoioyexperloncos. will give a feel
ing of security and frequently pre
vent llotirs of needless pain and
even, possibly, save a life."
Communications
.- No Violation of Ijtw.
. To the Kdltor:
. In behalf of ourselves, recently
arrested for a game violation we
did not commit, we would like
to sy that in our arrest Deputy
Game Warden Roy Parr made a
mistake in chnrgtng us with fish
ing after dark, and It was not be
cause of lack of evidence the case
wan dismissed.
The four of us had been fishing,
but discontinued to take part In
a picnic, dinner, and we had not
been 'fishing for two hours when
we wore met several hundred
yards f rom the st rea m by t he
officer when we were on our way
home. It was 30 minutes after
S o'clock when he saw us. lie
took our poles and licenses and
ordered us Into court. However,
later he renlliod he had' erred
and the matter Is now completely
settled, having hern dismissed
after It had been scheduled to
come up for trlnl In justice court
tomorrow.
