' The smudging began about ,1:30 n.'Tn. in the coldest orchards', 'and tho other orchards steadily joining from time to ' time until at 4 o'clock this morning men - who were on tho streets at that time, said the smudge was so dense one could not see more than 60 feet ahead. By sunun the smudire over the city began td dissipate, huf considerable remained for hours afterward. - A peculiar feature about the cold of last night is that while the north end, in tho Central Point -district, - is usually the coldest in the valley, the1 south end was the coldest. This is ex plained by .Floyd Young as due to the fact htat there seemed to be more wind or breeze about the Central Point flection. Today was fair, and fair weat'her Is forecast for tonight and Wed nesday, with decreasing humidity and little change in temperature, so that there may be smudging again tonight, but this will not be known until Mr. Young's .frost forecast is given out this evening.
