Perhaps to Virgil Minor, a recent
arrival here from Frulta. Colo.
Koch the distinction of being the
first person to swim in the cold
waters of the Hogue river this year
to croHS the stream in preference
to using a bridge he' did not know
was down stream a short distance.
Virgil delights ln hiking and yes
terday he started on a cross-coun
try jnunt to Table Hock when he
came to the river, not knowing
there wag such a water course ln
tho county.
As he had had experience in
swimming across tho Colorado
river, ho divested himself of cloth
ing, placed the apparel on a log
anil started to swim. However, be
fore lie had proceeded 10 yards the
log tipped and the clothing was
soaked. Upon a second trial he
used a larger log and sat on It as
ho paddled Mb way over, but the
log turned on end. throwing him
self and clothes Into the water.
Virgil, a youth not yet 20, said to
day tho water was a bit too cool
Tor comfortable swimming, but lie
added he had plenty of exercise. .
