WASHINGTON', April 5 (P)
Assistant 'Secretary Lowman re
ported today that IG persons had
been killed by prohibition agents
and coast guardsmen In cnforclnK
the prohibition laws during the Inst
15 numdiH.
In the smile period seven prohi
bition agents ami two mounted cus
toms inspectors were killed by per
sons they sought to arrest,
' In making public details of each
case In which a citizen wtis killed
by a government officer, lxiwmnn
said that the number of violent ar
rests was growing materially less
and he attributed the decrease to
observance of the rule promulgated
more than a year ago prohibiting
the. promiscuous use of firearms
by prohibition agents. Following
those Instructions, he said, prohibi
tion agents never resorted to the
use of weapons except to protect
their lives.
Of the total number killed dur
ing the period II persona met death
in resisting arrest by prohibition
officers, who lost only four less of
their own number. Coast guards
men killed five persons in the 15
months but no persons were killed
by customs officers during the'
year. The customs Inspectors alnln
were killed by Inspectors near Kl
Paso,. Texas, in 192S.

however, are stll pending.

Not content with capturing the
outstanding aviation records for
women, Mrs. liulse McPhetridge
Thaden is contemplating a
iitile non-stop flight across the ia
cc from Seattle to Tokyo..
On her proposed flight, which
would break ail records for sus
tainod flying over water, the avia
trix would be accompanied by a co
pilot, a navigator and a radio op
erator. She revealed that she was plan
ning on the daring flight as she
was preparing to leave Seattle yes
terday for Oakland, Cal., where she
hopes to add the women's speed
record to the endurance and alti
tude records which she already
holds.
An all-metal, tri-motored plane,
equipped with pontoons would be
used for the flight. Mrs. Thaden
said. She said the craft would
prolmbly be either a Ford or a Kok
ker product, both of whose plasits
she will visit within Hie month.
Mrs. Thaden suggested Emory
E. lironte, navigator of the first
civilian plane to fly irom the U. S.
to Hawaii, as her choice for navi
gator. Bronte said be would con
sider the proposal but Mrs. Thaden
named no one as a co-isilot.
All arrangements, she admitted,
had yet to be made.
