The firo was discovered during
the latter pari of iho noon hour

dinner. and was entirely unaware
that the house was on tire. m
The fire siren In Oold Hill was
sounded, . but the fire truck was
unable to reach the scene until
sevoral minutes after It had Rained
headway. ,
A number of men were present
to help move the things , out.
Among the articles saved were" two
puns, an organ, and a stovo. The
latter was being used at the time
and was removed from the house
with cookmg utensils on It and the
fire in.il. A -number of other nrll
elos wero taken out, some of them
being partially desire -d. .
The firo truck used chemicals,
hut, the wind was blowing so hard
and the firo was so hot that It
was Ineffective in tiucnchlng the
flames, as It wan impossible to Ret
close cnoUKh to the fire to really

water buckets from the creek
nearby, .and a number more used
shovels to throw dirt on nearby
houses, in ordor to protect them.
It. was so hot that one person on
a roof -fighting the fire had to
keep his feet in a Jiuckct of water
to keep from being burned. The

house, was saved by a change of
the wind, and dirt still remains on
the roof about a foot deep.
Articles taken from the house
were strung for fifty yards about
tho place. The electric lines which
were Just across the road from the
firo were down.
The house, which was complexi
ty destroyed, was covered by Insur
ance. It present, Mr. and Mrs.
Tarter are residing with their son,
Frank Carter, whose home is situ
aled about one hundred and fifty
feet from whom t.ie bouse burned.
