jvhich we have ieen canrfng for
several years both county and
subordinate), we will be ablo to
devote more time to the official
- publicity. We believe that proper
publicity 18 a Btrog factor in build
in up our Ciranse and in increan
Ins attendance by letting our peo
ple know what tha Grange is doing.
. It is o easy to get in tne ha Bit
of stayins at home on Cranno
niKht, especially these cold niKbts,
hut if our Grange is to do the work
it should do, and can do, we must
have the loyal support of every
member.
There Is no meeting of the
Orange that does not have some
question come up during the busi
ness session or the lecture hour
that is of vital importance to the
farmers and the jteople of the ru
ral communty. And so, farmers
and members, remember that the
Orange la working for your Inter
ests. Come and help us work for
your own and your neighbors' in
terest. j :Tke Eagle Point Grange has had
a constructive program from the
beginning, with an enthusiastic
and energetic group of members
A always willing to help wherever
they are placed, and so with ""ou
in your small corner and 1 in
mine," the work is accomplished
without It being too great a burden
to anyone. ' . ,
So we greet the membership and
wish the Orange a happy and pros
perous year, hoping that each mem
ber will do his or her bit to. make
the wish come true. .
One of the beautiful things about
the New Year coming every twelve
months is that with the New Year
one always feels llko making a
new start and new resolutions and,
while one does not often carry out
all the new resolutions,, yet there
la the recognition of mistakes made
In the past and a desire to do bet
ter, and that means a great deal in
the race of life. And bo, with the
clean, now page of a new year be
fore our Grange, and with the mis
takes of the past still fresh in our
memory, let us all try to keep our
Orange year of 1929 as free from
Wot and Boil as is humanly ks
Blble. Our Grango mado a splendid be
Binning In starting its year's work
nn New Year's night. This was a
most Interesting and profitable
f meeting.
, Joint installation
1 Worlhv Master I. K. Kline had
arranged for a joint instalation of
officers with other Granges In the
county. This was the first joint
Installation ever held In the county
and was a splendid succcs. Offi
cers of four Granges were In
stalled: Lake Creek. Jacksonville,
Sams Valley and Eagle Point. ,
An I lie lone line of officers, 41
in number, filed into the ball and
marched around the room, they
were heartily cheered and it W'ts
an impressive sight. The heantlf il
ceremony was impressive inrongn-
out and we believe will furnish a
real inspiration to tnu many
Oranges taking part for ihelr w j:k
during the year.
ThoBe in charge of '.he vvork
were Mrs. Gertrude Haak, install'
ing officer; Mrs. Luella Kline, ra-
(alia bearer; Mrs. Grace Cowdeu,
emblem bearer; Mrs, Julia JJavlcg,
conductress.
The principles upon which the
Grango is founded, Its lofty Ideals
and high aims, as well as the oar
nest instructions to its officers, as
Bet forth in the installation cere
mony, cannot help but Inspire of
ficers and members alike with a
love for a loyalty to our oraer. .inn
love and loyalty arc' the motive
nouer for intelligent labor,
We hope that this auspicious be
i ginning of our Grange work on New
Y'ea's day augurs well for a year
of successful Grange activities, and
continued social anjl economic co-
operation by the several Granges
in the county.
It was with a feeling of sadness
that, we saw our master for the
lutst three years step out of his po
sition as our leader and into the
ranks. Under his leadership we
have had three years of unprece
dented development, for our com
munity. And under his leadership
we have built up a Grange which
(numerically speaking) is fifth in
. the state, but which is second to
none in its activities, its loyalty
and co-operative spirit.. This has
not been done, however, without its
attending heartaches, iisrourat,e- j
meats and diffieuHies. But-today j
linds ns. more united, more loyal,
more hopeful- and more ready for
tJie work to come than ever before.
, i Given Never Absent
It was with the same twitchy
. feeling of the heartstrings that we
f. saw our secretary, Charlie Given.
' who has been our secretary since
organization, escorted from his post
by the conductress to a place In
the ranks. Good natdred and conr
icous, faithful, efficient, diplomatic
and ethical are the qualifications
we place after his name. Charlie
Given ia the only member of our
Grange who can claim the distinc
tion of naver having missed a busi
ness meeting of the Grange since
lis organization nearly lour years
lis".
Following closely upon that rec
ord came Tommy Given, gate
keeper since organization and now
steward; I. K. Kline, master for
the past three years; Mrs. Gertrude
Haak, lecturer for three years, who
have each missed but two business
meetings. 0
Our new master,; Alfred Mlttel
steadt, goes into office with the
r full support of a loyal membership
who have faith in his integrity and
in kis ability to handle the duties
lapiTrlainhH! to his odica with,

j Hit address to the UcatiKe (upon'

The New Year's eve dance netted
a neat sum for the building fund
of the Grange, as well as furnish
ing a jolly good time for all who
attended.
The dance on the 5th was a most
enjoyable affair, although there was
not a large crowd present.
H is believed that the new ways
and means committee will continue
the policy of . giving dances every
two weeks.
The next mectlci will be Tues
day, the 15lb. On this night the
new first and second degree teams
will put on the work for those de
grees. There will also be an In
teresting lecture program In charge
of tha new lecturer, Mrs. Luella
Ward.
Mrs. Gertrude Haak and installing
team were unable to install the
officers of the Talent Grange, an
lanned, last Thursday night, on ac
count of the Illness of Mrs. Haak,
This was very much regretted as
wo are also glad to reuder any
service to our brother Granges.
Mrs. Haak will also bo unable to
take charge of the Joint installation
at the Central Point Grange, as she
Is not yet sufficiently recovered to
go out of the house. We believe,
however, that the assistants will go
to Central - Point on Wednesday
night and assist in any way that
they can,
