Work Sought,
Traveling in an automobile, on
which tit ere was Mtltl an unpaid
balance of $300, a transient family
arrived In Medford last week und
immediately applied for aid at tlie
Red Cr'jtm upun their arrival, in
the city. The husband claimed ho
was an cx-aervlce man, a resident
of Oakland, Cal., and had attempt
ed to locale employment nil the
way from Oakland to -.Long view,
Wash. He was returning to Oak
land upon arriving here.
They left their home, a father,
a mother, and five children, lu the
faint hope uf finding better con
ditions north, and departed in the
thought if no work could be found,
an Interesting pleaturc trip would
at least be enjoyed. Upon being

upon reaching Medford. the Red

f The transient situation represents
only a port ion of l he Red t 'ross
work, which Includes charity for a
number of resident families who
havo been listed for years, and
for families who were once of
means but have heroine poverty
stricken through unforeseen cir

and thch' names are known to only
a chosen few. There are only five
such families and are mostly old

kin, or too proud to call upon them
