his last criminal case, which was
tried out In the open, between
Medford and Ahlnd.
It happened laftt Saturday, when
the district Attorney was on his
way to Ashland to try the cae of
State of Oregon vs. Sid Tostrl that ;
Judge Robert, In whose court the
cafe was to be heard, was on hfa (
way to a funeral near Talent. Bo i
he called Mr. Chaney and Frank '
DeHouza. defense attorney, and
asked them to meet him in front
of the home of the deceased.
The two attorneys arrived, to
find Judge Huberts wulting fur
them on the highway. Climbing
onto a fence and looking as Ju
dicial as possible, the judge opened
court and the hearing began. This
was the last official case for the
local prosecutor, whose term of of
fice expired at midnight on Sunday.

has cabled the general federation
of women's clubs at Washington,
Inviting the federation to hold Its
council next year at Panama. If
the Invitation is accepted it will
be the first time in tho history of
the federatnn that the meeting has
